"However, I [Jesus] am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him [sic] to you [to be in close fellowship with you]." ~ John 16:7

At the beginning of a new work day, our to-do list can consume our early morning thoughts and contribute to feelings of worry, fear, and anxiety. These feelings can prematurely launch us into “solve and conquer” mode, or can do the opposite and overwhelm us so that we slip into “procrastination and excuse” mode.

All of this is normal, but definitely not ideal when you’ve got a lot you want, and need, to do with your time today!

While in prayer a few mornings back, a phrase bubbled up in my spirit as the aforementioned began to weigh me down before I could get started, and it went simply like this, “I receive all the help that You want to give me today to do my work.”

What a wave of relief washed over me after I said that! My feelings changed and I was able to stay with prayer a few moments longer instead of jumping to my list.

The Holy Spirit within us is our helper, strengthener and teacher. The Spirit is a genius when it comes to all kinds of projects, plans, and pursuits. The Spirit is all wisdom, and all knowledge! That’s the nature and Spirit of God that lives, moves and breathes within each one of us.

The moment I repeated that phrase about receiving the help the other morning, I no longer felt small and alone up against my big day, but instead I felt supported and encouraged for I knew that God, the genius of all, would be with me every step of the way.

Would you be willing to stay a few moments longer in the presence of God to listen for what the Spirit is speaking to you regarding your day?

Prayer

Holy Spirit you ARE a genius! I forget that sometimes. How awesome it is to think that you are with me through everything I will encounter today. Thank you for being with me just like Jesus said you’d be. I want to hear you speaking specifically to me about my stuff today. I open myself to receive all the help that you, Lord, desire to give me for my work this day. Let it be done, and let it be so. Amen!
